    HANKSMAS 6 of 54

I actually thought this forgotten Hanks + Marshall glorified TV pilot was a pretty great look into the yuppie genealogy despite Jackie Gleason macabrely in the process of dying in real life and also in this movie, compounded by Marshall’s penchant to be over-sentimental when it’s least needed. Hanks is still in his phase of feeling like a replacement for Chevy Chase, but man is he funny in this one. We’re heading into the Prime Hanks…

Completely adore Money Pit’s set-based compounding slapstick. Completely hate our main couple’s horrible relationship. Third movie in a row wherein Hanks’ character is too unlikable to be redeemed. Shelly Long gives a weird performance. Wino vagabond? Weird!

DOES TOM EAT: No! But he tries

    And now adding…

DOES TOM PISS: Yes. Our first of many pisses.

I would show this to my girlfriend, Veronica, but she lives two towns away. She goes to a different school.

    ★★

Sarma’s involvement in this documentary means we’re not getting the whole story; not in a way of like, “we should be hearing both sides of the story” — We shouldn’t. That dude is fucked, it’s clear — But several episodes in this series portray conflict without much context, with the whole thing feeling weirdly vague and with no real story to tell. It’s pretty obvious that there’s some omission of information with a lot of things. I don’t know. A strange, stance-less series that goes on way too long.
