• Seven Samurai

    Seven Samurai

    ★★★★½

This being a comedy made it so palatable. Like its already great, but Akira Kurosawa's sense of humour is wickedly heartfelt, I want more.

    I'm hella nostalgic for this

(Movie 36 of my 2021 challenge: A film each week of 2021 from each year, starting at 1968)

Ow I really enjoyed just sitting with this! Lost in Translation is an easy watch, where the viewer can just journey with the characters from scene to scene without much thought, nothing is abrasive just comfortably interesting.

Well Harry Dean Stanton's Travis Henderson is just the cutest person ever!!

On a completely different topic, is it just me who thought they were watching an episode of Breaking Bad for most of this?

The family blockbuster that this summer needed... I can say that with confidence since the showing at the cinema was the first full room I've been in since Endgame.

  • Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

    ★★

Sadly I think this is the first MCU movie I can say I didn't like, it was plain dull in every way. I don't need anymore sky portals in my life

  • Cruella

    Cruella

So Cruella's character development in this movie is that she went from being a dick but not knowing why.... to being a dick but being able to blame her mum for it?

    City of God

    ★★★★

(Movie 35 of my 2021 challenge: A film each week of 2021 from each year, starting at 1968)

What a refreshing experience! While clearly being influenced by Hollywood's techniques and preferences of the time, City of God forges its own path, reminding the viewer that it's sometimes good to listen to those outside of your immediate sphere as they might use the same tools as you but to a drastically different effect.

    Is this the real life?
    Is this just fantasy?
