Brandon Gray’s review published on Letterboxd:
I watched this last night (for the first time) starting at 11pm (instead of 7pm after a full french press of coffee). I fucked up. The running time grated on me a little, while it's strengths were still very apparent.
One trick I'm fascinated with is how Mann so seamlessly combines a gritty, authentic feel (like The Wire) with an elevated, operatic feel. This is a Los Angeles of myth and dreams, and at the same time there is a meticulous attention to detail and authentic human emotions.
