Modern Times 1936
Gosh that Paulette Goddard is beautiful. Holy cow.
I love this film and its incorporation of sound into the silent film format to elevate the action. Whether it’s a small snippet of dialogue, the turning of a large crank or even Chaplin’s factory worker performing a musical number, Modern Times is a delightful blend of Chaplin’s prowess as a performer and director with the changing technology of film in the modern age Chaplin found himself in post-sound.

City Lights 1931
“Can you see now?”
Chaplin’s masterpiece. Its emotional highs hit as well as it’s emotional lows. That final scene when they touch hands just brings me delight.
