After seeing George C. Scott give incredible performances in Anatomy of a Murder and Hardcore in the last week, I wanted to revisit this and see how well it held up now that I’d seen more of his work.

Even with more context now, General Buck Turgidson remains my favorite comedic performance of all-time. In the conversation for best performance in general.

Every single person involved in the making is this movie is threatening to set the whole place on fire.

Scott is the best thing about all of it. I laugh basically every second he’s on screen.

When Bond barefoot skis behind a plane using a gun as his rope handle I cheered out loud and looked dumb in front of my family.

Timothy Dalton my favorite Bond based on this movie alone.

There are 342 shark kills in this.

    I loved it.

I can’t even believe how entertaining this is from moment to moment. The shortest 3 hour movie ever made? I didn’t want it to end.

The performances are flawless from top to bottom. Ben Gazzara, 28 years old and only his 3rd role. giving a complex and compelling performance as these iconic actors prowl around him.

Like the best movies that take a hard look at America, it’s thought provoking and deeply disturbing.

Could imagine this playing to an enraptured…

Would have given everything I had for Paul Schrader and George C. Scott to make more movies together.

Peter Boyle in seedy 70s movies just works. He’s so good in Taxi Driver, The Friends of Eddie Coyle, and as the schlubby PI in Hardcore. Throw in Young Frankenstein and I’m wondering how many actors had a better decade.

Never got quite as depraved as maybe I thought it was going to. Not saying I needed it to be darker. Mostly I…
