Punks VS Nazis
Jeremy Saulnier showed a ton of promise with his previous film, Blue Ruin and this didn't disappoint. The cast is great,The acting is superb (especially from the late Anton Yelchin) the cinematography is beautiful, the writing and directing are brilliant, the editing is fast paced, the set design is claustrophobic, the violence is realistic and shocking. The more I think about it, the more I realize how smart and subversive this film is. So intense and well made in every department.
The Witch disappointed me a lot because critics before the movie came out were saying how much of a great horror movie this is, which it wasn't. You could say I'm being a bit harsh, but I can say that the directors vision and imagery for this film was great. The art style and language of the film really helped with it being in the 1600's, and that sadly doesn't do justice for me. I love horror but this film…
A clever film which draws on horror traditions, especially the work of John Carpenter. Filmed in Detroit, the scenery of this half abandoned city along with the 80s synth score helps the atmosphere of the film.
I don't scare easily with films but this was unsettling enough to fight off the disappointment I often expect with a film that advertises itself as horror.
