Brendan Sheardy’s review published on Letterboxd:
Saw in 70mm. One of the coolest theater experiences I’ve had so far. I saw it in IMAX a few years back but seeing on film print gave a new experience to one of my favorite films of all time.
This film was so ahead of its time with visuals. Its still amazing to me how great it looks despite being made in the 60s. Filmgoers must have been mesmerized at the time.
I think this film had a beautiful way of exploring human evolution in an extraordinary way, but also tells a tale of singular human life itself. My analysis is incomplete having only lived a short portion of my own life, so I’m excited to keep viewing this as I get older and maybe get even more out of it personally.
Only thing about watching on print is in the first half there’s some intense flickering that strained my eyes pretty bad, but it improved as the film went on. There’s just some things you can’t fix with age.
