    The Witch

This is a lot scarier than I thought!

Egger's direction is certainly excellent with a lot of dedication to the setting. The screenplay is fantastic, but be mindful that it is Shakespearean English. I personally believe that it is not too hard to understand what they are talking about. I really liked the plot a lot and the ending is perfect. Character developments could be slightly better, but I liked the setting introduction.

The cast is superb, especially Anya Taylor-Joy…

  • Chinatown

Forget The Godfather Part II Oscars, Jake. It's Chinatown.

What a great film! The direction is absolutely flawless. Lots of people would mention this as a gold standard for screenplay, while I believe it is true, there are some confusing moments for me. Since it is my first time watching, I believe that a rewatch might change my opinion on this matter. Nevertheless, the character developments are excellent with an unpredictable plot and themes that resonates today.

    Nicholson does a…

    West Side Story

The definitive Shakespeare adaptation? Let's see...

The direction is really good, but not the most impressive (compared to The Sound of Music). The storytelling is faithful to Romeo and Juliet and remains surprisingly quite appropriate to this day. The screenplay isn't as good and memorable. I feel the character development is lacking and some characters are under-utilised, especially the prologue.

The cast is very good and they all bring the energy in this film. Wood is certainly astonishing, with great…

    There Will Be Blood

Such a tough competition for Best Picture win!

PTA's direction is top-notch, the screenplay - it's perfect! This film has one of the best character developments I have ever seen. I love how PTA takes time and patience to introduce the setting. The characters are 3-Dimensional and the themes are still appropriate to this day. The ending is magnificent! Lots of excellent quotes.

Day-Lewis is so immersed in the role that he definitely deserved the Oscar win. His performance is…

Scorsese's only Best Director and Best Picture winner...

While Scorsese's direction is excellent, it is not his best. The plot is handled extremely well, the screenplay is very good. The opening is superb, the second half of the film is very exciting. In the first half (except the opening), there are some scenes which can be cut as it gets long-winded, confusing and slightly boring. There are a lot of unpredictable twists!

I heard a lot of people criticising the…

  • Django Unchained

    Django Unchained

    Django, what a badass!

Tarantino's direction is pretty good, the screenplay and plot is great! There are a lot of good lines, but not as punchy and memorable as his other films. The characters are nicely crafted and introduced very well. There are a lot of unexpected and fun moments! Calvin Candie is very wicked!

Foxx and Waltz are perfect. Waltz's performance is not as good as Hans Landa in Basterds, but he deserves the Oscar win. The accidental glass…

    The Wolf of Wall Street

    This is an amazing film!

Martin Scorsese's direction is perfect - his energy is really exceptional! The screenplay is very engaging and extremely hilarious at times. The Machiavellian characterisation of Belfort is portrayed effectively with his funny narration and Breaking the Fourth Wall technique. I liked the storyline a lot with the rise and fall of Belfort. It's strange that the f-words made the movie even humorous. The other characters are nicely developed. IMO, the party house scene and the…

    Scott Pilgrim vs. the World

    Wow, this is very interesting!

While I believe Edgar Wright's direction is absolutely fantastic, the screenplay is a bit of a letdown IMO. The movie has a typical love story with a weak characters. The concept is very fun, but it is not handled as well. The cast is fine. The acting is not as spectacular, but given the nature of this film, they did an excellent job. Some performances are over the top at times.

    What I liked the…

    The Lighthouse

    The Shining in the lighthouse?

Well, the direction is excellent. The screenplay is pretty interesting. On one hand, I liked Egger's use of old English language for this setting, but it does make the film harder to understand and the use of swearing might be anachronistic (especially it is set in the 1890s). The setting is very good and I feel that the character development is nice and steady. Some scenes are quite boring and a little bit long-winded. Quite…

  • Spider-Man: No Way Home

    Spider-Man: No Way Home

    Spider-Man into the Spider-Verse live-action?

Yeah, it is. The plot is the best out of the Tom Holland Spider-Man films. It is very different to the other superhero films. The reunion of the Spider-Man villains and Garfield and Maguire is well-blended. There is a good amount of emotional punch and there is a nice amount of nostalgia. The characters are much stronger in this film. However, the first half is a little bit slow and goes a bit off-tangent.

  • Spider-Man: Far From Home

    Spider-Man: Far From Home

    A good Spider-Man film?

It's alright. I found the plot to be similar to the previous film and doesn't really add anything new. It is also not as funny as Homecoming and the characters are not as strong. However, Mysterio is a little different to other villains (better than Vulture, but not as strong as Dr Octavius). The story is not as interesting and gets a little boring for me.

The cast is fine, Gyllenhaal does a fantastic job. I…

  • The Big Lebowski

    The Big Lebowski

What a bizarre and absurd film!

The Coens' direction is excellent and certainly making this a fun film. The screenplay is pretty unique to other films, but slightly inconsistent. I really liked the characters of The Dude and Walter, they are very funny at times. There are some scenes which are slightly boring and very strange at times. A rewatch might clarify this better.

The cast is no doubt perfect. Bridges in his most iconic role - he is unforgettable…
