Candyman is the perfect embodiment of what I want from a horror film: smart, culturally relevant, and fucking scary. Nia DaCosta has a terrific vision (all her own, though there are some great visual callbacks to the original), and her script has just the right amount of Peele-isms that gives the film a strong, centered voice. I just wish it was ten minutes longer—it has a lot to say.
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is such a bright star. He wears a collarless blue shirt just as well as Daniel Kaluuya does.
