this really gets what it’s like growing up on the poor side. the endless comparisons to people you go to school with, trying too hard to relate to your friends whose families have more money, feeling embarrassed to have friends over and lying about where you live, the guilt that eats you alive for appreciating what your parents have done but wanting more for yourself, feeling like a burden on your family because just existing is expensive. even down to them going to showings for really nice, expensive homes when they’re down. this hurt
