  Marcel the Shell with Shoes On 2021

  Very cute mumblecore. Made up of overly familiar elements, reminded me especially of a Mike Mills movie especially Cmon Cmon (mildly apathetic documentarian emotionally attaches himself to wistful, sporadically wise child character). Its way too of its time in its attempts to be wholesome, the way Marcel will have these hackneyed philosophical one liners destined to be a person's opener for their Letterboxd review.

  What appealed to me most was actually the miniature botanical shelters built by the shells, that and the stop motion of course.

  Also I jumped out of my chair when Nathan Fielder showed up.

  This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

  Never write it in your screenplay that a character is canonically a good actor and then cast Joey King to play her.

  I mean, yeah, this was about the poorly paced/edited, pretentiously written, anything-to-distract-you-from-the-action-being-actually-kinda-bad, late Summer blockbuster that Critical Drinker will inevitably call a "breath of fresh air" i expected this would be.
