Borat Subsequent Moviefilm

Borat Subsequent Moviefilm ★★★½

Thoughts, not spoilers; vague details:

- Feels more scripted than the first, but perhaps that’s because nothing we hear or see can shock us after 2016, as opposed to the Bush years. Regardless, Borat is a comical character and being a little more scripted isn’t a bad thing even though not every sketch lands (the debutante ball).

-The shitshow of 2020 benefited Sacha Baron Cohen with this, providing a structure to the narrative and a fantastic ending. It actually deserves to be called “timely,” unlike any other use of that word for a movie.

- The epilogue, from global social media farm to the Running of the American is the best part. Vote or be execute. Borat pops up every GOP presidency and so let’s make this his last movie, as entertaining as he is.

- Once again, Borat’s magical calculator is a Black woman. Hopefully she was paid very nice.

- When the PMS fax machine man added eyebrows on the happy face I felt nice about America for one second.

- Maria Bakalova is great.

- The more I think about this, the more I think SBC is using obvious misogyny opposite compassionate women so frequently to nudge is in the direction of y’know maybe women should lead America...
