My Neighbor Totoro

My Neighbor Totoro ★★★★½

Totoro brings so much magic and joy. Perhaps my favorite touch that Miyazaki brings to Totoro isn't to the flying furball himself but the little 4-year old Mei, who actually behaves like a 4-year old, repeating everything her sister says, looking to her sister when she's not sure if she should be scared. And that for all the magic, it isn't used to get over grief, but instead keep the children company, and show that one act of kindness (giving an extra umbrella to someone with just a leaf covering their head) can go a long way to enrich your life. Imagination and curiosity are so powerful! Quite wonderful in every way.
