Complex film. It was well done and strikingly beautiful ... yet also a bit awkward. The animation by painting worked better in some instances than in others. As a fan of Van Gogh, I enjoyed the story and liked seeing his style of art of brought to life. But the animation had enough bad moments to take you out of the film.
What a terrible movie. I've never had a harder time staying awake during a film. I will never, ever understand the love affair with Tarantino. I just don't get his films or why people fall all over themselves to praise him. If this hadn't been so incredibly dreadful I might have some interest in seeing his new films, but this was two hours of my life I will never get back.
I was pleasantly surprised. I had read a number of reviews that were not favorable but went with a friend who is obsessed with the Broadway show. While this certainly isn't an Oscar winner, I don't feel it was as bad as the reviews stated.
I do think Eastwood was an odd choice for director. Instead of a movie musical it was a movie with some musical numbers in it.
