I have no qualms calling this movie an outstanding modern classic; I respect it more ardently than I do most 21st century cinema. Perhaps that’s due to the age I first saw it, but rewatch after rewatch my admiration hasn’t wavered.

“They had a lot of weapons, mister… and they was shootin’ bullets.”

And what a head-turning reference it is when Evans ‘recalls’ defending the US Capitol from confederate insurgents... some things, etc. etc.

Screened in the actual Filmhouse cinema on the big screen along with the other New Visions short films selected & nominated at the Edinburgh Film Festival this year - and what a strange & joyous experience. Watching what we made in January over in Leith projected for real was surreal.

Hope to do it again soon :)

Melanie Laurent was very nice to me at a party once and squeezed my arm and did her laugh and I will never forget that, so I will always like her and everything she does. And this is well directed! I hope we get more films like it from her!

This has marvelous ingredients. Very good-looking people doing gnarly crime things in very good-looking locations.

It’s missing a genuine setpiece though, something, anything to really tie it all together. And that ending… the film deserved better.

    But! C'etait fun.

There is no finer performance of intense contempt for one’s own audience. Every line genius. Love it.

So I had a wonderful time out on La Croisette tonight and at the Ceremonie d’Ouverture (my first!! Heartwarming and cool!). Afterwards, I was close to and in conversation with some absolute cinema luminaries and made some delightfully friendly new French friends. But as for the film…

The film can fuck right off. There is one shot of a coyote that’s great, and one of a salamander that’s fairly neat, and other than that nearly every choice…
