Brian Sweeney’s review published on Letterboxd:
Why are we afraid of the first time? Every day in life is a first time. Every morning is new. We never live the same day twice. We're never afraid of getting up every morning. Why?
Yi Yi is a film about perspective. Every single thing that happens in our lives and in the world is perceived differently by each person. For every experience we have, we bring our own baggage, our own history. Everything that we do and everything that happens to us changes us in some way, big or small, yet we do not know the outcome as it happens. We cannot see years, months, days or minutes ahead, because every choice we make creates a new future for us. I can already see Yi Yi being a film I revisit every few years, and every few years it'll be a different experience.
