Scott Audetat’s review published on Letterboxd:
I loved this book growing up and it really is one of the more perfect films from my childhood...and it was made 8 years before I was born!!!
The kids are all fantastic and the ways they got them all were pretty fantastic. The music is great. The Oompa Loompa song is a classic. Discovering all this candy is such an adventure.
But the real star here is Wilder. He is so good. At times he can be the warmest person on screen, other a psycho(the boat scene) and in one scene he's a total a-hole! He was perfection in this role.
I also think they really got the feel of how it used to be with candy stores and what not.
The only things I was upset with was the shot of the other four children all mutated leaving the factory at the end, the remake got that right, or that the Great Glass Elevator was never made into a film!
