    Nobody

    ★★½

this was such a strange one to me actually, like the way it just kind of flagrantly disrespects narrative conventions in a lot of ways for a purpose that i’m still not entirely sure of?

like, yes, it kicked ass, lots and lots of ass, but also i just kinda felt out of the loop for a lot of it? if that made any sense? and i’m not sure if that was some kind of deliberate artistic decision or if…

this is a good movie (i particularly went hysterical at the newscaster’s mention of the dog eating pizza and will arnett running over the raccoon, incredible stuff)

    Life, and Nothing More...

    ★★★★½

ok just a slight tangent here that’s worth mentioning before i discuss the film itself, after doing some research on kiarostami i was disgusted to find out that he’s been accused of (TW) raping mania akbari, one of the leading actresses of his film ten, twice, something which it goes without saying makes me really not want to levy any particular praise at kiarostami in particular, who now seems like a pretty horrendous person to say the least, and so…

    Pickpocket

    ★★★½

ebbed and flowed with my engagement with this one, but there’s so much quality filmmaking here. absolutely worth your time, especially with it being so short. the actual pickpocketing sequences were seriously riveting in a way that’s communicated so smoothly and simply by bresson. there’s something about the way bresson uses and moves the camera in this film that’s almost hypnotic and i really couldn’t get enough of that. it took me a while to get on board with the…

    The Wind Will Carry Us

i have no doubt in my mind that abbas kiarostami is one of the greatest directors to have ever lived. he just so plainly understands cinema as an art form so well, in a way very few (if any) other directors are able to do so effortlessly. kiarostami behind the camera feels like such a natural setting for him, one where he feels entirely comfortable and at peace, able to express so much in always so simple a way.

i was planning on making my long awaited return to the works of the great abbas kiarostami and watching the wind will carry us but … i ended up here. don’t ask why.

anthony soprano jr’s in this though! cool!

but yeah, this film kinda sucks! some pretty cool stuff in here, especially towards the first half, but on the whole, pretty bad! i think i was a child the last time i watched this also? weird!

i don’t think i’ve ever seen a film with as muddy a social commentary as this one, it’s actually unreal and also hilarious

……. what a film. maybe the only one i’ve ever seen that actually feels like a living, breathing organism. also maybe the most beautiful/well shot film ever? incredible.

was definitely pleasantly surprised by this one. austin butler seriously dissolved into the role, and the pacing was actually brilliant. as a whole, i thought it was just pretty good, but enjoyed how much i was surprised by it. check it out! if you’re interested!

just a lot of fun and cuteness. we’re so lucky we’ve got richard linklater, and i’m never gonna forget that.
