The dog was so cute, and that was a nice juxtaposition to the brutal kills. I wish the film focused more on that and less on other elements. Some of the characters felt under-utilized as well.

The plot is ridiculous, and it feels like a Goosebumps episode for adults. Also, the relation to the Amityville canon is minimal, so much so that this could have been its own stand alone film outside of the franchise. Also, some of the acting is just horrible. All that being said, I did enjoy a few of the scenes with the family being tormented or controlled by the evil. And as bad as the medium’s acting was, I didn’t care—she was really entertaining to watch, and the best part of the movie for me.
