One of the finest horror flicks I've seen in recent years! Instead of solely relying on jump scares or extreme gore to frighten the viewer, The Babadook makes for a truly unsettling experience and one that is filled with powerful symbolisms, drama, suspense and creepy imagery. Similarly to The Shining, The Babadook is a psychological horror where you follow the main character's descent into complete insanity. It's also an incredibly compelling drama due to tragic past events that end up developing an estranged relationship between the mother and son, which only deteriorates as the story progresses. This is a breath of fresh air in the recent wave of spin offs, sequels and uninspired horror films, being one of the year's best releases.
