    Minions: The Rise of Gru

There’s a bit where they visit the “Bank of Evil”, and it’s all big pillars squashing folk etc.

It would’ve been funnier if they just set it in a normal bank.

Film was fine, Hannah seemed to enjoy it for the most part. Animation was pretty slick, but the whole Minion thing makes me feel weird.

  • The Damned United

    The Damned United

A fairly standard biopic raised by a great cast. Not a patch on the book though.

John Leguizamo's Latin History for Morons

There’s a lot of good stuff in here, and at times it’s incredibly moving, but the use of racial stereotyping, homophobic caricature and some outright racism is very unpleasant and detracts from the good work he’s doing.

    A Serious Man

Clouds aren’t shaped like animals and there is no face in your porridge. Signs are just coincidences that we try and attribute meaning to.

A Serious Man is about a patch of bad luck and the meaning we try and pull from the wreckage of a life.

It’ll never be talked about in the same way as Fargo or the Big Lebowski, but in many ways this is a real masterpiece. It’s a small film, beautifully shaped and realised, full of petty human moments.
