Ben Stevens’s review published on Letterboxd:
Was surprised that I liked this considering all the other Scream sequels I found to be average.
At first I absolutely despised the fact that this was called Scream instead of Scream 5, but it actually kiiiinda makes sense in the meta context of the film. Some people might find it to be cringey because the fourth wall meta stuff was so blatant and in your face but I think it worked. The explanation of the requel stuff being a personal favourite of mine.
I think the acting held it down a bit although there were some pretty good performances. The one-liners were also pretty groanworthy. But aside from that this is a genuinely fun time. The social commentary was interesting and did a similar thing to the new Matrix but in a much more interesting way.
