Entertaining as hell. A "so bad it's good" movie with fight scenes that are legitimately great. If I saw this as a kid, I would've watched it repeatedly.
I was mostly enjoying this until Kevin Smith's daughter all of a sudden became the main character about halfway through.
At one point in the movie, Kevin Smith says to his daughter, "you ruined my fucking movie career". After watching Tusk, Yoga Hosers and this, I have to agree.
The Monster Squad is the epitome of cinematic comfort food for me. The kind of movie that you never tire of watching. One you can throw on when you’re not feeling well or can’t decide on something else to watch or just need something familiar. Watching it feels like spending time with an old friend you haven’t seen in a while. I first saw Monster Squad in the late 80s when I was 6 or 7 and I would credit it with fueling my interest in horror and leading me to seek out scarier, bloodier movies as I got older.
