    Mission: Impossible III

    ★★★

I unintentionally got a double dose of J.J. Abrams when I watched Rise of Skywalker and this back to back. He's gotten a lot better at directing action. Mission III's set pieces leave something to be desired, but the story moves at a brisk pace and the plot is much better than the previous two.

    Requiem for a Dream

    ★★★★★

The title says it all: You know from the first moment that things aren't going to turn out well; but you can't help but stare, horrified, once things get moving. Requiem is filled to the brim with technical creativity, and every bit of style supports the substance. Still, with so much going on, it's easy to overlook the stunning performances led by Ellen Burstyn (in her Oscar nominated role). I know Requiem is on a lot of "Great Films I'll Never Watch Again" lists, but you owe it to yourself to see it at least the once.
