I think Deckard is a replicant.

Watched this again, this time for class - studying lit theory with a focus on the post human. BR is basically the perfect distillation of the human vs post human discussion, and I can’t wait to talk about it in class tomorrow. This movie gets better each time I fall into it. The entire ending sequence is one of the best of all time. The tragedy of the replicants always gets to me -…

    The Last of the Mohicans

Hadn’t seen this since I was a kid, so this was basically a first viewing. Damn - I knew it was good, but I didn’t know it was great. Movies like this are why I love movies. It’s basically flawless.
Mann is an expert at employing a hyper-focused perspective that cuts straight to the thrilling center of every moment. Like Hawkeye, he’s a dead-eye. Moments of calm & action are composed brilliantly. A rousing, satisfying, ultimately poignant experience.

Her performance sent chills down my spine. The screenplay is genius (a masterclass in…

Cold as rain and hot as lightning.

Mann’s framing is so elegant in its simplicity - each frame says so much, particularly in the ending: Frank gets up (along w/ the camera - the camera rarely if ever takes us out of Frank’s head). Everybody else stays down. This movie rules.

The music builds perfectly to the climax (the music comes out in full crescendo twice - at the beach, and at the end), which is one of the most satisfying and poignant I think I’ve ever encountered. That slow-mo reload is magnificent. I love the style, I love the substance. It’s perfect.
