I already had a lot of respect for Tim Schafer and Double Fine as a company, but the PsychOdyssey project has so far made me appreciate them more. I dread the episodes I haven’t seen because they take place after the Xbox acquisition went down and I’m afraid DF will become increasingly corporatized. I’ve already seen the clip where Matt Booty tells the DF employees that Amnesia Fortnight might not be allowed in the future, which is concerning.

I watched this based on the hype alone and without even having seen a single trailer. It’s insanely brilliant. Not one minute passed in which I wasn’t absorbed in what was going on. The plot is ingenious, delivering what seems like a simple narrative in about half of it, and then switching up gears with a twist that not only makes things a lot more interesting but also further drives the movie’s message home.

Kathy Bates doesn’t even try in this; she just *is*. Her performance comes across so naturally that it’s not like someone trying to “play crazy”, but like it’s the part she was born to play. Of course Bates went on to prove herself as one of the all-time greats, but I would love to see her return to this type of thing again someday.
