Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb

Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb ★★★★

"Of course, the whole point of a Doomsday Machine is lost, if you keep it a secret! Why didn't you tell the world, eh?"
"It was to be announced at the Party Congress on Monday. As you know, the Premier loves surprises."

I have to admit not liking Dr. Strangelove the first time that I saw it. Most of my problem with it being the title character, who I still don't feel fits into the story very well, but will admit makes more sense considering that World War II wasn't that long ago when the film was made. The character just seems like more of an over the top joke than anything else in the film. Still, he didn't ruin the film for me on this viewing. Otherwise the film is a well written, beautifully performed satire, but one expects nothing less of Kubrick.
