The Northman

The Northman ★★★★

Kicked ass on so many levels. I am a Hamlet Hoe™, so I loved recognising all the embryonic elements of the story just soaked in Eggers' trademark magical realism. I especially appreciated the way he entwined that with elements of Norse mythology, such as Odin's feminine magic and his insane aspect reflected in (H)Amlet(h)'s "playing the fool" and his resorting to trickery.

That said, it does need to have a star taken off for Anya's Old Slavic 🤢
