Looks like Céline Sciamma has proven herself to be French cinema’s premier filmmaker of the female coming-of-age drama. Wonderful movie as expected. Such a devastating work of art with enough social issues to render you speechless. The unsentimental approach is admirable, and every performance is fearless. Gotta love the cinema verite style as well, just like in Tomboy. And kudos to Sciamma for playing RiRi’s best single in its entirety! Watching the girls lip-sync their way through the song in their stolen designer clothing inside that posh Parisian hotel room is nothing short of magical.
