Much closer to the traditional spectrum of horror than some other French new extremity (other than maybe High Tension) but still extremely fucked. Maybe the most fucked, tbh. It’s 15 years later, but has anybody checked in on France to see how people are doing?

  • The House That Jack Built

    The House That Jack Built

    ★★★

Matt Dillon really made his bones here. A really outstanding performance. But overall, I was left a bit unenthused by the film as a whole. Loved the Dante/Virgil bit tho

  • Society

It’s crazy that this is Qanon canon, and it’s probably the least subtle
Movie of all time, but “Fuck you butthead” is the greatest line of dialogue that has ever been written.

  • Satan

    ★★★★

I’m kind of surprised at how much I dig this! A French cabin-in-the-woods story mixed with Deliverance-level inbreeding, a whole mess of very unsettling dolls, and a dash of satanism equals a solid horror movie. Once you add in a genuinely insane performance by Vincent Casell, well then, you got yourself a fuckin’ Christmas classic!

    Also, dude’s suck

I’m just begging all you directors and producers, just cut 15 minutes off your movie. You can do it. Make it tighter. Make it that much more significant. Other than a bit too long, really quite great! Loved the score
