I actually didn't think this was that bad. Chris Rock is decent and it probably has some of the best gore effects in the series. It gets off to a good start, then stumbles over its muddled message.
If you're not familiar with the play or at least Shakespeare in general, I don't know that this is a great entry point. Tonally reminiscent of NWR's 'Valhalla Rising', the performances and cinematography are exceptional but it is very easy to get lost in the dialogue even if you know what's supposed to be happening.
The interpretation of the source material is interesting. There are a few narrative changes that alter key details and expectations. We are given most of the iconic moments but they are often given different context and so take on a different meaning (Lady Macbeth's entire character, for example).
