Pan's Labyrinth

Pan's Labyrinth ★★★★½

“Porque es en el dolor donde encontramos el sentido de la vida” - El cura

“Because in the pain is where we find the meaning of life” - The priest

I feel like this is the first Spanish movie that I enjoyed
, and yes I’m Spanish but the level of the Spanish cinema is really low.

It’s an entertaining movie set after the Spanish Civil War, after the victory of the fascist side leaded by Francisco Franco
. The main characters are from a family of a fascist general, who is a hateful, annoying and a ruthless person, and their servant.

This movie combines the harsh reality of the time, inspired in 1944, five years after the end of the Civil War, to be exact, with a touch of fantasy and innocence, which makes an enjoyable watch full of lack of humility and fairy tales.

Highly recommended to enjoy one of the little good movies that the Spanish cinema sadly has.
