oh gdt... even at your most saccharine you never disappoint me...

as an evocative work of art 5/5. wondrous animation, mood, setting, character designs. alexandre desplat never misses with the scores. there are dream-like fantastical setpieces and characters that are so beautiful and dig so deeply into my creative well that i may as well have no complaints.

unadulterated character assassination at its finest. horrendous plot. terrible music. phenomenal staging and costumes. musical that makes you wonder if musicals are actually good. this one is not.

i saw it when it was released in 2012 to select theaters only. i bought the dvd of it when it came out. i know that my financial patronage, in some small way, contributed to the decision to give it a US stage tour, which is something i have to live with. i've seen this production easily 15 times. i will continue to see it periodically until the day i die.
