    in the wrong hands, this script could’ve been made into a whole slew of different movies. maybe a corny coming of age movie, or even a political thriller. but the final product here is so wonderful in that it becomes a quiet, even mundane family drama. there is no room for excess. river phoenix is phenomenal and sidney lumet continues to not miss. the ended is just so powerful. idk there’s just so much good. family movies really just get me
