Second viewing found my hang ups with clumsy franchise table-setting evaporating. What's left is pretty incredible - a thoughtful, strikingly shot studio picture (one of the best looking ones in recent memory) with uniformly excellent/fascinating performances. Updates a bunch of tired ass characters and tropes, freeing them from the lazy confines of canon and imbuing them with a relevancy that extends beyond box office returns.
