Ernest Calderon’s review published on Letterboxd :
The rewatch begins. Gonna rewatch the whole series leading up to next month's FALLOUT.
This one is actually pretty damn fun despite its cheesiness. The break-in to the CIA HQ still holds up, and truly is iconic. The train tunnel/helicopter finale is so damn ridiculous and dumb, but I still love it.
I enjoyed seeing this and thinking about how the series has evolved. This movie really is very small and simple, but the seeds of nutso action are there, as is the team dynamic and humor. Cruise gives it his all, as always. Jon Voight is fine, but I was especially surprised to see Jean Reno. Totally forgot he was in this.
The real MVP is Danny Elfman, though. His score takes the theme from the old show and blows up into the big screen, propelling our engagement in Ethan Hunt's quest to prove his innocence.
Also, RIP Emilio Estevez. What a horrible way to go.
