Caleb’s review published on Letterboxd:
You guys never had anything to worry about. I thought I wouldn't but I actually teared up. This movie is so FUCKING AWESOME. However, not everything is perfect. I just have ONE (1) issue: the edit was a bit wonky and some transitions were jarring. Otherwise, it's so much better than Man of Steel. DC comics fans will be VERY happy.*
Update: Review of the Ultimate Cut - August 8, 2016
The Ultimate Cut restores my original rating of the film to 4-1/2 stars. The jarring editing is gone. The story is fleshed out and GOOD. There's a complex conspiracy weaved through the movie that doesn't make any sense in the original cut. Plot holes are fixed. It's not about hand feeding the audience, but when you have conspiracies like the one in this movie, revelations need to make sense.
A complaint from the theatrical cut is that you sit through all of this movie with very little action and then an underwhelming title fight. The Ultimate Cut makes the fight actually worth sitting through 2 hours for. You get the battle of ideologies between Batman and Superman. Before, it was a really one-sided movie that made Batman seem like he was out to kill Superman for no good reason. Here you get Clark's side of the story, which evens out the scale and you see that maybe Batman is a psycho murderer and not really a hero anymore. This makes his redemption arc that much more compelling than the whole "Martha!" thing, which wasn't *bad* in the first place, but just weak.
