Possessor ★★★★

Corporate espionage is such an interesting concept to me and something you don’t often see explored in film. Here, Brandon Cronenberg presents it as a high concept sci-fi thriller. I’d heard a lot of good things about this particular picture, chiefly among them how brutal and gruesome it was. I’m not one for torture and certain kinds of maiming. Pleasantly surprised that the gore is much more tame than friends let on. The film itself doesn’t have much to say and is very on-the-nose with the loss of humanity. Personally, I found the world and the technology much more interesting. Cronenberg doesn’t spend a lot of time explaining how it all works - or anytime really, but you understand quite easily. Visually appealing and stellar performances from Andrea Riseborough and Christopher Abbott, who continues to pick the most interesting roles.
