    The Mitchells vs. The Machines

Looks like Sony Animation is starting to corner the market on animated family comedies with innovative aesthetics, huh... Some of the broader gags didn't totally land for me, but on the whole a sweet and very funny apocalyptic road trip movie.

    Forrest Gump

I totally get why people shit all over this movie these days, but I also totally get why it so thoroughly conquered the world upon its release. There's a certain lovely sweetness to seeing the world through Forrest's eyes, and I couldn't help but be sucked into Hanks' performance. Zemeckis does a great job with handling the effects, and a decent one with blending the comedy and drama too. It always felt wild to think that this swept the Oscars, but it's markedly less wild now that I've actually watched it.
