Rushmore ★★★★

Watched at the cinema with my dear friends Samantha & Vaughn. What’s nicer than good friends, a nice lounge theater, perfectly buttery popcorn, and Wes Anderson’s very agreeable Rushmore?

Not much, truly. What works so well about Rushmore, is that it arrives just before Anderson becomes a bit stymied by his symmetrical eye. Everything still goes in it’s place and exactly where it must be, but there is a less clinical approach. The approach is closer to the love and the heart of movies. The simplicity is what makes it so inherently good, so breezily watchable, so lightly romantic and structurally sound. An improved viewing — movies can only get better with friends you care about.
