    Love a film which interweaves poetry into its structure to this extent, Terence Davies certainly has a knack for that. Cynthia Nixon is brilliant as Emily Dickinson. Really dug this throughout, perhaps not quite to the extent of say a Bright Star but it certainly is a beautifully made film.

    Its portrayal of the Asian diaspora experience is so vividly portrayed and thoughtful that it's a shame it's so limited/stereotypical in its portrayal of the Black and Latino characters that appear in the film, leaving those sequences to have a bit of a sour note in my mouth, especially when the central thrust of the Chinese American immigrant experience is so well sketched.     The worst Benedict Cumberbatch film of the year but also probably the best Tom Holland film of the year I guess. Some good acting and genuinely effective playing around with ideas. Some awful meme moments and poorly executed direction undercuts it. Audience responded really well to what you’d expect them to react well too, I didn’t care for a lot of it but some moments did.

    Anyway, The Hand of God is out on Netflix today.

    What an absolute blast. Loved the fusion of Asian and Asian American cultures, the vibrant fun of the varied action sequences, and the immense heart to what is essentially the tale of a broken family finding ways to repair itself.
