I Care a Lot

I Care a Lot ★★

2021 Ranking

I Did Not Care a Lot for any of the characters in this.

Which is fine, many films have been built upon entirely reprehensible people. But the film never really gives me too much of a reason to care enough about what any of these nasty pieces of work are up to. I don't need to like any of them, but you gotta give me something to anchor my interest onto.

Rosamund Pike, Peter Dinklage, Chris Messina, and Dianne Wiest are all very game and have some great individually acted moments throughout the film, even though it's very obvious how much of a riff on Amy Dunne the role is for Pike, and in that regard Marla Grayson simply is just not that interesting when you get down to it, what she's doing is just not that clever or fascinating. None of the cast is working with particularly good material and by the end I was thinking, what's the point? All I got was traces of better films, and the final act after the Dinklage-Pike scene is just an absolute mess.

Edit: the more I think about this the more I dislike it, I'm bumping it down to a 2.
