    Mad Max: Fury Road

Visceral action combined with a heart-pounding soundtrack is really all it takes to elevate Fury Road as one of the best films of all time.

    What makes a film great?
Narrative, no doubt. A cohesive story that's driven predominantly by emotion. One that breaks free from stale ideas and stale writing to present something new, something invigorating. A story that doesn't serve purely as a vehicle to drive proceedings from A to B, but a story that demands you undivided…

  • Alien

A masterful exercise in suspense, Alien is both terrifying and mesmerizing.

There's not much to say about Alien that hasn't already been said. Ridley Scott's 1979 budget sci-fi horror has inarguably remained his seminal film over the years, and for good reason.

There's a quality to the Xenomorph that remains as vividly terrifying as it was back upon its debut. A monster film is only as good as its monster, and both HR Giger and a budding Scott ensures that…

Surprised at how average this one was. Dever and Feldstein make strong leads, and theres a few laugh out loud moments, but there's absolutely nothing else new on offer here.

Quick note on representation - Amy's character is well written, but why is the entire supporting cast of metrosexuals, homosexuals, jocks, hipsters, stoners and rich kids almost caricature like?

Things half submerged in the water aren't abundantly scary, so Jaws expertly addressed this by:
    - making the thing proportionate to the size of a small charter boat
    - making only one of the thing,…

    Shrek the Third

It's impressive this has a made for TV vibe with the budget it does.

    Not very good.

    Spider-Man: Far from Home

All the problems that you initially think are going to hinder Far From Home end up being exactly the ones that do. Villains have blurry motivations, stakes are laughable compared to the end of the world scenarios that The Avengers built up to, and the high school angst is all 'take it or leave it' type stuff that we've seen plenty of at this point.

In saying this, Far From Home is still in the hands of capable writers. The…
