Horse Girl

Horse Girl ★★★

I can hear the future.

This starts as a fascinating character study of a woman dealing with issues and had the potential to become an engaging and touching story. Then the second act kicks in and takes a massive swing in tone with things escalating way too quickly, so that by the third act everything is overrun with excessive and unnecessary weirdness to the point it made me numb, unsympathetic, and disengaged.

On the plus side Alison Brie does a great job and had the script remained a bit more grounded I suspect I would have loved this movie.

BONUS POINTS for casting some great veteran actors like Paul Reiser, David Paymer and the underrated Molly Shannon who turns a in wonderfully subtle performance.

We’re gonna get her DNA.
When they test them together they can see that I’m a clone.
