The fact that I liked this as much as I did is a pretty big deal I think. An even bigger endorsement is that I could find very little to sympathize with, no character that I could see myself in or situation I could relate to, but I still enjoyed it. This film is sort of the reaction to the kind of films I hate - being quirky isn't all that it's made out to be, and the coolest thing you can really do is act like an adult. Just like everyone else has already said, this whole film is beautifully carried on Greta Gerwig's shoulders. You love her, you want to be her best friend, and you want her to get her shit together. FRANCES HA has one of the best endings of any movie I've seen this year, and for that alone I'd watch it again. The only reason I didn't give it a full five stars is because I wanted more dancing, because I like movies about dancers. It is a big part of the story but not as much of a focal point as I'd hoped, but that is just my personal preference.
