Daïnah la Métisse 1932
Studio Gaumont's truncated and censored version does not prevent traces of an unattainable masterpiece to shine through; unattainable like the true fate of Daïnah and what’s evoked in song: "if it's wrong or right I got to go where you are, ain't no chains can bind you, if you live I'll find you." For me, Daïnah la métisse is a greater loss to cinema than Greed, and particularly for its decipherable moral stance against patriarchal and colonial power structures.
Ahhh, the sacred cow smirks at my two cents.
