The Irishman

The Irishman ★★★★★

“Three people can usually keep a secret as long as the other two are dead.”

deposed kings looking back at their empire. impossible to feel like this isnt some sort of culimination of scorsese’s career, in a genre he managed to revolutionize while also contemplate on, in The Irishman there is a particular amount of detail and attention focused on age, and how the generations after you will remember you (or not) long after you return to the ground. none of scorsese’s signature kick is lost in any of the bitter. its all just a little sadder. you can want to be a gangster all you want, just know you’ll probably want to leave the door slightly open at night before bed.
