I love my dumb physical comedy but even countless shots to the nuts couldn't save this one. Hopefully Johnny gets another shot to do one right.

The once great Luc Besson has created a pretty looking universe but that's really it. The leads are unbearable, the writing is very weak, and it's way too long to care about the dull plot. Really wanted to enjoy it but no, just no.

    ★★★★½

Boyhood is easily in the 10 best of 2014. Obviously props are due to Linklater for creating an epic piece of art. However I don't feel as if its as ground-breaking as everyone claimed it was. Boyhood is an experience for sure and I was entertained throughout, I guess I just expected more from all the hype. Boyhood is a masterful film, but I still feel as if the Before Trilogy is Linklater's best work. Still one of the best of the year though and deserves a best pic, screenplay, directing, and maybe some acting nods from the Academy this year.
