Carter’s review published on Letterboxd:
Parts of this have such ‘90s young adult movie energy, and yet it’s rated R (a pretty light R, but R nonetheless). It’s a dramatic and fascinating combination, but I think its strongest moments are where it emerges from that energy into its own style. For instance, I LOVE how Mozelle’s visions are portrayed and other moments with that fragmented and macabre visual flair are where this film really has its personality. All around, Eve’s Bayou is a terrific piece of heartfelt melodrama, one that I don’t think could be achieved without the history and setting at its heart.
Also Debbi Morgan steals the show every time she’s onscreen. What an underrated performer.
