So I decided to rewatch this because my first viewing I wasn’t really a fan. After second viewing I appreciate it more, but still this is nowhere near as good as Ari Aster’s Hereditary. Yes, I’m comparing the two because it’s simply hard not to. I never really got the shocking and disturbing feeling that Hereditary gave me with this one. The cinematography is gorgeous, the acting is superb, but once the credits roll it does nothing for me. I will definitely continue to check out more of Aster’s work, but Midsommar is an overlong disappointment for me.
P.S. The first 15 minutes are excellent though.
